Two outcasts and best friends, Sophie (Sophia Anne Caruso) and Agatha (Sofia Wylie), connect in the most unlikely ways in the village of Gavaldon. Sophie, a golden-haired seamstress, wants to become a princess in order to escape her dull life, but Agatha, with her gloomy appearance and eccentric mother, has all the makings of a real witch.

The true stories behind all the greatest fairy tales begin at the School for Good and Evil, which is where they are taken one night during a blood-red moon. However, something is off right away: Sophie is placed in the School for Evil, directed by the glitzy and sarcastic Lady Lesso (Charlize Theron), whereas Agatha is placed in the School for Good, under the care of the cheery and benevolent Professor Dovey (Kerry Washington).

As if getting through classes with the daughters of the Wicked Witch (Freya Parks), Captain Hook (Earl Cave), and King Arthur (Jamie Flatters) weren’t challenging enough, the Schoolmaster (Laurence Fishburne) claims that the only way to change the rules and send the girls to their proper schools and destinations is through the kiss of true love. The only path to a happy ending is to survive their real-life fairytale first, especially when a shady and perilous person (Kit Young) with enigmatic ties to Sophie reemerges and threatens to wipe out the school and the rest of the globe.
